The Jeep Patriot is another step in that direction with a smoother than expected ride quality with the Trail Rated off-road capability found in all Jeeps. On the highway, the Jeep Patriot performed quite well especially considering we drove through a pretty large snow storm. Facing slick roads and challenging conditions, we engaged the 4WD system to combat wheel slippage as well as provide additional torque at all four wheels.
While the drive was long and tiring, the Patriot never slid or caused us concern. In fact, we were pretty impressed by just how well it performed.
Around town, it provided a fairly smooth ride for a Jeep. These estimates are based on the upgraded 2. This engine was mated to a 6-speed automatic and this powertrain produces hp and lb-ft of torque. While the power was adequate, it was just that adequate. We would have enjoyed seeing a more powerful powertrain in this vehicle. One of the benefits to its exterior shape comes out while driving it in the form of visibility.
For a compact SUV, the visibility is really good and this is due to its squared off sides and front end. Overall, while there are smoother and more powerful compact SUV options out there, it is hard to beat the off-road capability found in the Jeep Patriot. If your driving habits include dirt or snow, this SUV should be on your list. Yet, that design works for the Jeep brand.

Great fuel mileage Satellite radio would be nice when I'm away from the city's radio stations. All in all, very satisfied. I can't believe this is not selling better, especially in this economic climate. I'm not surprised at the number of great reviews in this forum, but I don't hear a lot of "Buzz" about this vehicle.
