However, I also discovered to my messy surprise that it was oil filled, and now I'm wondering what the correct type of oil will be to refill it with after I replace the cord. And the seal around the cord, and what I take to be the oil fill plug I have not called Little Giant yet but I thought perhaps someone here knew what these things are filled with? And please don't tell me PCB oil! Tags: None. Dielectric oil like Mobil Univolt. Comment Post Cancel. That was the magic search term I needed.

I now know what I need and have some leads on where to find it. Originally posted by Rosco-P View Post. Play Brutal Nature , Black Moons free to play highly realistic voxel sandbox game.

If you have nearby oil storage for heating, then this can be a source of contamination if a tank starts leaking. A leak in both a submersible and pedestal pump can be caused by a cracked or damaged seal or gasket. A gasket is usually easy to find and fix. If the housing is cracked, then a completely new pump assembly will need to be purchased and installed. It is best to leave the major repairs and the sourcing of materials to a sump pump professional.

A small leak can still do a lot of damage to your pump. When a sump pump is not getting enough oil for lubrication, it has to work harder to do the same job. The harder your pump has to work the sooner you will find yourself having to purchase a new one. If a leak is positioned a certain way, then there is a risk of water getting into parts of the pump that are not meant ever to have contact.

Corrosion and electrical shorting can result which means during a big storm you may find yourself without any pump at all to take care of the rising water levels. If you try to fix a leak, and it comes back, then you are going to have to take it to the next level.

Zoeller sump pumps use Dielectric oil. This is a lighter mineral oil that works well inside motors near water. Related Posts How to fix a leaking sump pump. Best Sump Pumps. E-mail the company about what they use in their new pumps.

The weather beat all my expectations, hours after the original post, before daybreak Sunday the temperature had dropped below freezing, and the only way that the water will leave the yard currently is if I chop it loose and carry it out. I know this doesn't help much, but that's all I remember from when the sump pump at my old house rotted out and dumped it's oil in the sump pit. Messages: 5, Location: America's Dairyland. My wife actually assembles your pump.

I asked her what oil is used, but was unsure. The supply is pumped to the assembly area, so she does not know. She was told the oil can be used for cooking, sort of makes sense being that if the water mixed with the sump pump oil, the got into the municipal water, it wouldn't be a huge concern.

BTW, she said it really stinks, the oil. The wife spoke to a supervisor, it's not just straight oil, anti-foaming agents, anti-freeze are also additives. My suggestion Buy a new Simer or Flotec, and keep her working.
